How to Do Keywords Research For Your Call-Only Ads and Analyze Them With Call Tracking
Call-Only ads are the new hit for marketers. Advertisers can use call tracking software to analyze the performance of their campaigns. However, they need to get the basics done first. Every online marketer knows that keywords are the secret sauce behind every successful campaign. With keywords, there are three important things to keep in mind. How relevant they are, how much volume they have, and how competitive they are.
- Relevance–you want your keywords to be as relevant to what people are searching as possible. Sometimes it helps if you put yourself in the shoes of your customers. Think about what they are typing in their browsers. For example, if you are a car dealer you might think that the keyword ‘pre-owned vehicles’ is a great keyword, but your customers are probably not using this keyword. Instead they are searching for ‘used cars.’ Try to stay away from industry jargon that is not popular among the public.
- Volume – We saw that industry terms such as ‘pre-owned vehicles’ might have a very low volume. But does this mean that using the term ‘used cars’ is better. Probably not. While it may seem like a great idea to use the keyword with the highest volume, it might also mean that you are driving too much irrelevant traffic. If someone is using the term ‘used cars,’ but is actually only looking for used Hondas and you don’t sell any Hondas, you might pay for this person’s call only to find out that it was a bad lead. Remember – more volume does not equal better.
- Competition – Let’s assume that you sell used Hondas. This may still not be the best choice for a keyword. More generic keywords have more competition and may end up costing you a lot of money. You might want to use long-tail keywords that don’t have as much volume but are highly relevant and don’t have as much competition. For example, you can use a keyword such as ‘used 2012 Honda Civic’ and have better results than using a high volume, high competition keyword such as ‘used cars.’
